Need A Ride to Church?

The Brotherhood of St. Andrew would like to help.

Do you, or someone you know, need a ride to and from church?

Please call the Parish Office (869-6351) on or before Friday by 1 p.m.

** Important note: if you have children needing a ride, a parent or guardian must accompany them.

We now have t-shirts with the Episcopal shield on them. The shirts are in red and only $16.50. Summer is t-shirt weather and will soon be here, so get your shirt now before we sell out!

Remember—if you have a birthday, wedding, or shower gift to buy, why not stop by the gift shop for that special something.

St. John’s Youth Christian Education Classes

We hope to share this time to encourage our young people to test their values in the context of their Christian faith and to equip them to make smart choices about real life issues.

The curriculum strives to make Biblical characters come to life as real people who dealt with issues of good and evil, happiness, truth, and ultimate meaning. We will also be covering the “basics,” which embrace the foundations of the Anglican tradition: Sacraments of the Church, Episcopal Church year, and our common spiritual life.

All young people are invited to attend Christian Formation classes. The classes will be held in the upstairs youth room between services on Sundays at 9:30 a.m. and are for those in the 5th grade and up.

Evangelism Corner

God our heavenly Father, you revealed to us your only Son Jesus Christ who became the reconciler of your people to you through His awful death on the cross. He chose disciples to continue teaching and revealing him as Lord and Saviour. We ask you to open our hearts and let Christ live in us that we would be His present and future disciples for His mission. We pray that the radiant rays of the Holy Spirit may inspire, and strengthen us to preach Christ Jesus as Lord, Saviour and life giver throughout the world. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen.

St. John’s Youth Christian Education Classes

Kids 4th grade and younger get together in "Godly Play" in the upstairs classroom every Sunday at 10:15am. After class, they join us in worship before communion.

Outreach Ministry News

Thanks to your generosity, Janice Carson made two trips to the Family Violence Center in Springfield to deliver some very welcome items. They were particularly delighted with the robes and the toiletries, which they were running low on. A note of thanks from them is posted on the Outreach bulletin board in the hallway to the parish hall.

Likewise, your Lenten support for the Episcopal Relief and Development (ERD) Mosquito Net Project was outstanding! While not all monies have been collected at this writing, it appears that we will be able to supply two villages (50 families each) in Africa with treated mosquito nets, the training to use them, and treatment for those who have already contracted malaria. With a matching $500 grant from the diocesan Millennium Development Goal committee, we will be sending ERD around $1,200 toward this project. Thank you, thank you, thank you! God is surely at work at St. John’s and two villages in Africa.

Since needs are never ending, the next project the Outreach Ministry Group requests your support for is to gather funds to send to Fr. Jesse Mwaniki in Kenya to provide communion wine for the three parishes he serves. They are able to celebrate the Eucharist only once a month because they don’t have more funds to buy wine. Pictures of Fr. Jesse and his Christians and a message from him are also posted on the Outreach bulletin board.

PLAN TO ATTEND THE BROTHERHOOD/OUTREACH BRUNCH MAY 4th. Please be generous as all proceeds will be sent to Fr. Jesse for communion wine. Our group will also have some unique “home décor” items for purchase. As always, if you want to receive tax credit for your gift, make a check to “St. John’s Episcopal Church” and write “Fr. Jesse” on the memo line. Bob Jones will be at his usual collection basket table in the parish hall to gather your donations on May 4th.

If you have questions about any of the Outreach projects, please contact one of the Group members: Nancy Bear, Janice Carson, Nikki Chaffin, Nadine Gentry, Janice Hancock, Karen Horny, Dave Westervelt, Kim Westervelt, or Pat Schreiner.
